INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
“CURRENT HYPOTHESES ON ALZHEIMER´S DISEASE”
To be held in the “Conference Town”

Reñaca, Viña del Mar, Chile

( web site )

November 22-25, 2007

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT & CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Abstract deadline:   August 31, 2007

Conference Chairs: Drs. Ricardo B. Maccioni (International Centre for Biomedicine - ICC) and Patricio Fuentes (Hospital Salvador, Santiago)
Main Sponsors: PBCT – CONICYT (Bicentennial Program on Science and Technology), International Centre for Biomedicine (ICC), Ibero-American Molecular Biology Organization (IMBO), Department of Neurological Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile, NEUROINOVATION Ltd.

The event enlists the participation of scientists working on topics of major relevance in the neurological sciences, psychiatry, and biology of Alzheimer´s disease (AD).

The Conference is focused in the molecular and biomedical aspects of AD and their impact in the clinical sciences. This interdisciplinary focus has been chosen considering the major advances in this field during the last few years. The aim of the conference is to provide an updated view and to achieve an integrative compilation of cellular, molecular and genetic events applicable to elucidation of AD pathogenesis. The subject is extremely timely because much has been learned about this type of dementia related to human aging.

The meeting will consist of and integrated and interactive set of conferences presented by leading neuroscientists that have contributed to elucidate the molecular, cellular and genetic foundations on the pathogenesis of AD, followed by a brain storming - type of discussion among participants, on the major hypotheses of this disease.

Program also considers posters presentations of fresh data on major advances in AD pathogenesis.

SESSIONS
The proposed areas to be analyzed (subjected to modifications depending on speakers) will be:

  • Structural and functional aspects of neuron-glia dynamic.
  • APP, secretases and Abeta-peptides.
  • Tau, protein kinases and phosphatases.
  • Neuroimmunology of AD. Cytokines.
  • Signals transduction mechanisms in AD.
  • Familial Alzheimer´s disease. Presenilins.
  • Synaptic transmission and cognitive phenomena.
  • Genetic and environmental risk factor for AD.
  • Cerebrovascular dementia.
  • Infectious basis for AD.
  • Bridges between brain function and mental phenomena in AD.

EXHIBITS AND SPONSORSHIP

The conference presents great opportunities to expand visibility of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies among participants.
